This study aims at analysing the mechanical strength of boat racks located in a dry port, under wind and snow conditions.

The structure of the racks takes the shape of a screwed metallic framework. The sections and boats mass are modelled by finite-element.

The loads consist of permanent events (i.e. the proper weight) and random events (i.e. wind or snow). All these load cases are combined with the LSD (Limit State Design).

The maximal deflections and stress are calculated and compared with the permissible values.

The efforts in the bolts are postprocessed following the Eurocode 3 norm, namely:

  • Bolt tensile strength
  • Bolt shear strength
  • Tensile and shear strength combined
  • Punching shear resistance
  • Bearing resistance
  • Slip resistance
